A water bottle should definitely be in the backpack so that you can always offer the dog fluid. That is particularly important not only when it is hot and dry. Especially on strenuous hikes, you should take regular breaks for drinking.

| An emergency kit is also highly recommended, for example filled with gauze bandages, creams and a tweezer for ticks and thorns. Especially in rocky terrain can small or large scratches happen quickly, which then can be treated immediately. |

| You should also be prepared for sudden weather changes in the mountains. While people should bring a rain jacket or warm clothing for themselves - depending on the place where they hike - a rain-/cold protection or at least a dry towel is recommended depending on the dog. |
