Why you better refrain from of a collar.


Twenty to thirty years ago, dog collars were stil very common. Or even earlier, when shepherd dogs with spiked dog collars were protected against wolf attacks. Today, however, you hardly see them anymore in Switzerland, which is good. 

You will find out in this newsletter, why we like it this way and why you will never find a collar in the product range of curli.
A yank with consequenses
The main problem of a collar can be summed up quickly: When pulling the collar with a sudden jerk, considerable forces apply, which concentrate only on a few square centimeters of the dogs neck. To a place with important organs such as the thyroid, larynx, trachea and large neck vessels, which could be injured. Not to mention the sensitive cervical spine.
We don’t claim that a dog collar will inevitably lead to such injuries. But we all know how fast it can happen that a jerky movement occurs on the collar. Either by an abrupt movement of the dog or by bringing the dog quickly out of danger.
The advantages of a harness
As quickly as we summed up the disadvantages of a collar, the advantages of a harness can be pointed out: At a dog harness the tractive force is being distributed throughout the whole body. Furthermore, all curli harnesses are designed in order to adjust them individually to the dogs body.
